The Fencibles (from the word defensible) were British light infantry and cavalry regiments raised in the United Kingdom, Isle of Man and in the colonies for defense against the threat of invasion during various wars and conflicts in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Most fencible regiments consisted of local recruits commanded by regular army officers. Today, the commissioned officers of the The Bailey Fencibles are individuals from all walks and of good character with charitable hearts that have come together to provide financial support meeting the needs of our philanthropic mission.
The Bailey Fencibles were created in an armorial grant to HRH Douglas Buchanan Bailey, 26th of Bailey, Chief of the Clan Bailey of Ireland, under the prerogatives exercised by His Majesty The Omukama (King) Solomon Iguru I, of the constitutionally restored constituent Kingdom of Bunyoro-Kitara of the Republic of Uganda, and are recorded in Volume 1, page 2 of the Heraldry Society of Africa. The Bailey Fencibles primary mission is assisting with Omukama's humanitarian initiatives as directed by the Commanding General, Douglas Buchanan Bailey. Chief Bailey holds the rank of General in the Omukama's Royal Honour Guard Abroad.
HM The Omukama, Solomon Iguru I is a reigning constituent monarch, traditional ruler. He reigns over the legally recognized dominion of the Kingdom of Bunyoro- Kitara. His titles and royal prerogatives are recognized and supported by the government of the Republic of Uganda.
